QDOBA launches BOGO burritos for National Burrito Day—while quietly gaining on Chipotle

QDOBA is serving up free burritos for National Burrito Day—and growing fast, while rival Chipotle deals with damage control.

Deal deets:

  • Must be a QDOBA Rewards member (sign-up is free)
  • Valid April 3 only (National Burrito Day)
  • Buy any entrée and a drink, get one entrée free (excludes quesadillas)
  • Redeemable in-restaurant, online, or via the QDOBA app

If your burrito dreams include “buy one, get one free,” mark your calendar for Thursday, April 3. That’s when QDOBA is rolling out its cheeky new “Burrito Insurance” promo: buy any entrée and a drink, and get a second entrée free—no guilt, no sharing required (unless you really want to).

The deal is part of QDOBA’s National Burrito Day celebration, but it’s also a savvy nod to the brand’s broader momentum. With over 800 locations across the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico, QDOBA is expanding fast, with more than 500 locations planned for 2025 and beyond.

Burritos, but make it data-driven

To stir the pot further, QDOBA conducted a Gen Z burrito survey (yes, that’s a thing), revealing that:

  • 85% of Gen Z say queso and/or guac—which QDOBA includes for free—are must-haves.
  • 66% would grab a burrito on a first date.
  • Nearly 80% said they wouldn’t share a free burrito if given the option.

Clearly, QDOBA knows its audience: burrito loyalists who want value, flavor, and maybe a little personal space.

Meanwhile, Chipotle’s juggling its own PR “wrap”

While QDOBA’s slinging freebies and stacking franchise wins, Chipotle recently dodged viral rumors of a full-blown bankruptcy and restaurant closures. The confusion stemmed from the shuttering of Farmesa, a niche test kitchen concept Chipotle quietly piloted in a Santa Monica food hall in 2023.

Despite the online panic, Chipotle clarified that it’s not going bankrupt—far from it. The brand posted $11.3 billion in revenue in 2024, with plans to open up to 345 new locations in 2025, including more with its digital drive-thru “Chipotlanes”.

Still, the headlines caused some brand confusion—and QDOBA seems more than happy to capitalize on the moment.

The burrito battleground is heating up

QDOBA isn’t just competing on taste—it’s positioning itself as the more playful, perks-forward burrito brand.

With free guac, creative promos, and aggressive franchise expansion into states like Texas, Georgia, and Utah, the company is on track to widen its presence while making its rewards program a central part of the experience.

The BOGO burrito deal is available April 3 only and is open to all QDOBA Rewards members. If you don’t have the app, you can sign up on the spot, in-store, or online.
