The Tajín takeover continues—this time, Sonic is getting in on the action.

Starting March 3, the drive-in giant is rolling out the Strawberry Mangonada Slush, a sweet, tangy, and slightly spicy frozen drink that combines juicy strawberries, sweet mangonada syrup, and a kick of Tajín Clásico Chili Lime seasoning.

And if you can’t wait? Sonic App users can order it early, starting today.

What’s in the Strawberry Mangonada Slush?

Inspired by the traditional Mexican mangonada, this new limited-time drink blends juicy strawberries and mango syrup with a hint of zesty Tajín Clásico.

The result is a refreshing, fruit-forward slush with just the right amount of chili-lime heat. Sonic says this drink is designed to bring a “bold, authentic flavor experience” to fans looking for something beyond the usual sugary slush lineup.

Why Tajín?

Tajín has become a flavor phenomenon, expanding beyond its Mexican street food roots and into everything from cocktails and fruit snacks to fast-food menus.

Its popularity isn’t just about the heat—it’s the way the chili, lime, and salt enhance both sweet and savory flavors.

“We’re always looking to bring excitement to our fans with refreshing, craveable, and unexpected drinks, and by partnering with Tajín to add their signature seasoning flavor to the Strawberry Mangonada Slush, we’ve done just that,” Mackenzie Gibson, Sonic’s VP of Culinary & Menu Innovation, said in a press release.

Tajín USA Director Javier Leyva added that the slush “is the perfect way to experience that sweet and tangy kick,” emphasizing that the seasoning isn’t just a trend—it’s a flavor staple that continues to win over new fans.

Other fast-food brands embracing Tajín

Sonic isn’t alone in jumping on the Tajín wave.

The seasoning has been spicing up menus across the food industry, showing up in snacks and drinks that push the boundaries of sweet and savory combinations.

Wendy’s recently tested Tajín French Fries, giving their classic crispy fries a chili-lime makeover. After debuting the fries in El Salvador, Wendy’s teased them at a U.S. event, sparking speculation that they could be launching nationwide soon.

Taco Cabana took things a step further with a Tajín Mango Fried Pie, a crispy, golden pastry filled with tropical fruit and finished with a dusting of chili-lime seasoning. This limited-time menu item aimed to capture the sweet-spicy balance that’s become a fan-favorite flavor profile.

Even snack brands are getting in on the action.

Slim Jim partnered with Tajín to create a spicy, smoky meat snack, proving that chili-lime seasoning isn’t just for fruit and drinks. Paired with a Michelada or mangonada, the combo delivers a bold, savory-sweet experience that takes traditional snacking up a notch.

Where and when to get it

The Strawberry Mangonada Slush will be available at Sonic locations nationwide starting March 3, with early access for Sonic App users starting today.

The sweet-and-spicy beverage starts at $2.99 for a medium, but only for a limited time, so if you’re curious about the sweet-spicy trend, now’s the time to try it.

The verdict: is Sonic’s Tajín slush a hit or a miss?

Sonic has never been afraid to experiment with bold flavors, and with Tajín becoming a fast-food favorite, this move makes perfect sense.

But will traditional slush lovers embrace a drink with a spicy kick? Or is Sonic taking the Tajín trend too far?

One thing’s for sure: sweet-and-spicy fans are already winning 2025.
